"The Mississippian Hero Twins of the Cumberland River: Stories from the Time of Creation"

Kevin E. Smith, Professor of Anthropology, Middle Tennessee State University

Kevin E. Smith, Professor of Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University, will discuss some of stunning human effigy ceramics created between A.D. 1300 and 1475 by ancient Native American centered in Nashville.  Two key characters presented time and again are the Middle Cumberland Hero Twins – revered deities whose stories center on their adventures at the Time of Creation.

All River Talks are free and open to the public. You may reserve an optional lunch for $10 or bring your own. 

Where: The Cumberland River Compact, located on the 3rd floor of the Bridge Building, 2 Victory Ave, Nashville, TN 37213.

Parking: Free parking is available in Lot R South of the Nissan Stadium parking lot. Permitted parking is available in Lot R NW. Map and passes are below. 

Schedule: Doors open and lunch will be available at 11:30 am, the presentation will start promptly at 12:00 and end at 1:00pm
